Overview

In this course, we shall begin our journey from the basic concepts in international trade space, to trade theory and trade policy, how to design trade policy instruments that meet international trade rules, and end with framework for customs classification.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Develop an understanding of current trends in global trade and their implications as well as international trade policy including activities of the World Trade Organization.
  • Understand trade policy in the wider context of multilateral trading system. 
  • Understand the theory and practice of international trade.
  • Understand contemporary policy issues, evaluation of trade policy and potential future frameworks for international trade.

By the end of this course you will be able to:

  • Develop knowledge of the pattern of world trade and the interdependence of national economies.
  • Understand the differences and tensions between domestic and international policy.
  • Understand the interfaces between trade policy and development and between investor protection and investment attraction.
  • Understand the importance of free, and fair trade.
  • Be better equipped with the theoretical and technical skills for assessing the effects of trading agreements on its signatories.
